The things that come to you when you are quiet and still can be subtle or straight up in your face. We all live in a very busy world, a very busy time. Our minds are on a constant need for information, a constant plug into the world. We teach our children the very same thing that causes us as adults to suffer. We are plugged in from the moment we wake up until the moment we close our eyes. Constant stimulation. Constant speed.

What happens when we slow down a bit? How can you even do this? Is it even possible? Do you want to make a change? Do you have a desire for change? Are you content with the constant overload of information? Or would you like to enjoy more, feel more, experience more?

When you slow down just a little bit your body begins to relax. You don’t feel like you have to watch something, do something, scroll something, impress someone. When you let go of the things that bind you to your constant connection you begin to feel normal again.

What is normal? Normal to you may be different from normal to me. Normal for me is feeling a sense of peace inside, a familiar feeling of someone I once knew begins to come out. I smile a little more. I revel in the beauty of the natural earth, the things God made that are magnificent in their natural form. I start to feel a bit happier. A bit lighter. A bit connected to the things that I’ve been disconnected from while being connected to the ties of the tiresome world.

I was resistant at first to go on this writing retreat. I was going alone. I wasn’t inspired. I felt guilty for leaving my family at home. I didn’t know anyone that would be there. But, I decided to just try it. I could leave any time and it would be ok. Once I got here I became anxious. Things were said that invoked the triggers of my anxieties. I wasn’t sure I could continue.

My wonderful husband messaged with me about this and assured me that it was ok. That maybe this is what I need. As usual, he has the ability to calm me, and this is what he did.

So I decided to disconnect from the constant connection of the weighted world. I decided to listen and learn. To sit still and be quiet. To enjoy myself and my life. I found that it’s nice. Comforting. Soothing.

I am trying to get out of my own head with thoughts of worries, anxieties, fears that have a strong grip on my soul. Being here is teaching me that this is what I need to do all the time.

It won’t come easily once I return home. The load of life will return and I will set back into the routines of the days. But maybe I can take away a technique that I can just reflect upon for those times that seem too much. Maybe I can step away and see that the little things don’t matter. Maybe I can bring in the fresh air and fill my soul with the comfort it brings.

I haven’t gotten a ton of writing done, but I have relaxed. I have been inspired. I have started the process of healing from within. One step at a time.

So, maybe if we all take one step at a time and disconnect from the world that brings us down, we can see the little things that will lift us up.

You can cut all the flowers, but you cannot keep spring from coming.

*ANNOUNCMENT!*

As you all know I self-published my first book The Journey In Between: A Mississippi Marriage Of Convenience. It needed editing and a new professional cover. Well, I am proud to say that both of these things have been accomplished! I hired two people to help me with this and I believe they both did a great job!

I hope you will update your already purchased ebooks with the new edition or order it for the first time! The paperback is also updated and ready to be ordered! I hope you will enjoy!

Thanks again for everyone’s support! I am not done yet!

I have finished my second first draft novel in the genre of fantasy romance. I had editing to do then I will hire professionals to help me complete my work. I believe I will be querying publishers with that one. Stay tuned for more information on that one!

I have also entered a short story contest in which winners will be drawn in mid October! I will also update you all about that!

#writerslife #authorconfessions

noemi-jimenez-771555-unsplash

Have you ever wondered what goes on in a writer’s mind? How do they think? Do they have the whole story in their head before they write something? Does it just appear in their mind?

No one writer is the same as the other. They find their inspiration in different ways. Some plan all of their writing in their head first then on paper as an outline. Then they follow the online and tweak here and there. Some just sit and write what was playing in their head. Some just sit and pick a word or subject and write from it as it goes. Sometimes the story changes right before their eyes and they are wowed by their new discoveries.

Nearly every writer always has a story waiting in the back of their mind. One thing they see influences their story or creates a new story. Something someone around them does influences a character or a word of art. You may see them staring off into space or talking to themselves. No, they are not losing their mind. They are thinking. Constantly.  A writer’s mind never truly rests.

The characters they write about become real and they take a life on their own. This may not sound logical to someone who doesn’t write or read for pleasure. Avid Readers, professional writers, or even casual writers will completely understand this concept. They speak of the characters as though they are real and exist in real life. Yet they do know that they don’t. It’s almost the same as watching a movie, show, series, etc. You follow along side the characters and they feel like they are real. You want to know what happens next. For writers and readers they have the same thoughts and feelings. But as writers they can write what they want to happen next. They are pleasing or displeasing the readers in the process.

Anyone can be a writer. Anyone can be a reader. Anyone can be a critic. Anyone can be all of these rolled into one. You just need a little time, a little effort, and an open mind. Let the many possible boxes open to reveal what can become possible on paper or even digital print.

Support your friends as they write or read, they need it. It helps them feel as though they are important in your life and in the grand scheme of things. Those who write leave a written legacy as their life fades, opening up minds of the future people who follow.

So I have some exciting changes coming soon. As you all know I self published my book The Journey In Between. Every person who has read it told me they loved the story. I knew when I published the book that it had some grammatical errors and formatting issues. I will be addressing these issues very soon.

I have already hired someone to make me a professional cover for my book and if it turns out how I imagine you all will love it! I am so excited about it!

I am also hiring an editor to correct the grammatical errors. Yay! That will be coming soon as well.

I love the story I wrote. As most authors should love their own work. But do I love it because I wrote it? That’s not the only reason. I like books that have a pastime setting. This setting is in the late 1800s. Times were different then. A whole lot different. Things were simpler and straight to the point. Not many distractions such as the things we have today. I don’t really know if they were better or not. In  some aspects they were. But in some they were not.

Such things that weren’t better are air conditioning, women’s rights, African American rights, the treatment of women in general, not having enough supplies and living on the means of what they had. You have to agree that the majority of us have an abundance of things that was not readily available back then. Sometimes we forget that people before us suffered with traditions and lack of necessities back then. The things they went through put a small brick in the building of the evolution of the way humanity lives. We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for those before us. Their discoveries and need to move forward. They didn’t stay stuck in the times of those days.

I see things like that EVERY day of my life. I think about the roads and the thoughts of those before us to construct them. The buildings that are still standing from that time and those that are in shambles now. Those people gone. As we will be one day. Sad to think about really. But I try not to too much.

This book and my future books will be entertainment for those who come after me, as long as the world continues to progress and go on. So thank you for reading my story and my blogs. I hope to enlighten, entertain, and encourage others.

How’s the writing going? #amwriting #wip #writerslife

I would say it’s going ok. I was stuck on a part that I got bored with and set it aside. Then because of obligations I had to take a 3 hour trip. On that trip The entire ending came to me! It is a totally different ending that I “planned”.

As a writer the characters and story tends to take on its own life. Readers, friends, family, and peers may not understand that. They think we are just writing what we want and plan it all out. Don’t get me wrong. Some people do that. I tried with this new one. I have an outline written out for this new book and it skipped the last 6-7 planned chapters and made a complete 180. HA!

I love it! Although I don’t have much support emotionally I will still push forward. Yes it’s a hobby for me. No I’m not trying to make millions. But I would like to have someone to talk about it with. Someone who is interested in the genre I am writing. But I will be ok if I don’t. That’s just the way it is sometimes.

I’m almost up to 28,000 words and I have to write the middle now! It’s great! Now on to writing some more!

Do what you like, do what you want, and do what makes you happy. Even if nobody else is encouraging or supportive of you.

IMG_5308So I have in my possession 2 paperbacks that I haven’t decided quite what to do with them. 🙂 Sell them you say? Yea I’m working on getting all of my work to sell. I have sold a few ebooks and a few paperbacks. I have people reading on #kindleunlimited. But what I need is #readers who want to read #romance. Not just random people. So I hope that you will help me reach my target audience and help me to reach 1000+ followers on my #twitter. When I reach 1000 followers I will be holding a giveaway. I will probably make a tweet and whoever retweets will be put in the drawing!

I will pay for the shipping! Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this! It may seem small on the larger scale of things but even a seed has to start small. So please be so kind and help me water my very small seed!

A Lonely Life. #momlife #lonelylife #sos #friends #weneedourgalpals

One of the most loneliest lives is a mom life. How can that be? You may be asking yourself. You have so many kids to keep you company. It’s never quiet at your house. How can you be lonely as a mom? There is a good explanation I promise.

When you are a mom you devote all of your time to the kids. Cleaning after them, cleaning them, playing with them, occupying them, disciplining them, organizing them, entertaining them, planning for them, keeping up with them, and so on. Guess what other moms are doing too? The EXACT same thing as you!

So those moms don’t have time to be friends just as you as a mom don’t as well.

Any friends you have that aren’t moms don’t have time to wait around for you to schedule them in around all the kids. So they don’t have time for you either. Or your time isn’t worth waiting on. Don’t really know that one, I only see from the mom side. LOL

This day and age everyone is so busy going, doing, planning, living life in the fast lane. Nobody has time to spend building friendships, new or old.

When you find that slow time in your life, such as nighttime when all the kids are asleep or when the rare occasion happens that you have a babysitter, no one is waiting on you.

This may seem sad and depressing. It is. Sometimes. But you come to realize that people are just people and the friends you want to see and spend time with so much probably have the same busy life as you. They just don’t show it.

Sometimes you need to make time for your friends. Reach out to your “mom friend”. She probably needs some adult conversation and a laugh or two.

Anyway, I have been researching greek mythology and believe have come to a conclusion to my books back story. It’s getting really exciting! I have two chapters completed right now! Of course it’s only in its rough draft faze but hey that’s better than only an idea in my head.

I am still character building and character introducing. I hope you all will stay tuned to see how this all turns out!

Bucket List

Stéphane France Fashion Logo-2.png

So do YOU have a bucket list? I have never actually wrote one down as all my life I didn’t really think about kicking the bucket. But hey we all grow old right? And that bucket is getting closer and closer. So before my bucket is empty and kicked over I have been making a mental note of things I have on my unofficial bucket list and am slowly checking them off.

I mean life is short right? Some of us realize this sooner than others. I realized my own mortality about 1-2 years ago. I am now 39 years old. Midlife crisis? Probably. Panic set in and I realized my time left is limited!

Well one of the things on my bucket list was to write and publish a book. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a very impatient person. I wrote my first complete book last year. I did a lot of research and sought out all the options to getting published. Doing it the hard long way is what I tried first. The book companies make it really hard to get published. Requirements and money and time and rejections and money…. Oh did I already mention money? Well it’s true. Someone who doesn’t have that green stuff just laying around has really no chance in ever getting published in their lifetime.

I’m not saying I’m poor or anything but I do have 6 kids still living at home and money goes to their needs first. So yes I self published my first book. I do know there are mistakes in the book. BUT it’s published and more people have and will read it than the people that live in my home.

Is that wrong? I don’t think so. I’m not even looking to get rich. Writing is a fun thing I like to do and if it makes a few other people happy from reading my work then it’s all worth it to not be some big shot writer who spent more money than I make in a year to get published.

Anyway, I don’t think I am through writing just yet but I did get one of the things off my bucket list checked off. And this makes me happy.

What’s on YOUR bucket list? Don’t have one? You should. You only get one bucket and when its empty it’s a lot easier to kick.

This is Anxiety #anxiety #anxietyisreal #thisisanxiety #mebeingtransparent

Every flower is a soul blossomingin nature.

My 5-year-old son took this picture after I had an anxiety attack, shortly before. He thought I was playing and thought it was funny to take a picture of me. I wanted to laugh at his innocent gesture, but I couldn’t. I had to close my eyes and take deep breaths to stop the hyperventilation. To stop the chest pain. To stop the tears from falling. My husband was in the room behind me and our other 4 children were in the house. I wasn’t alone. Panic attacks can come at any time and they do. It isn’t fun, and I wish I didn’t suffer from them. But occasionally, I do.

Anxiety

What does anxiety look and feel like?

Anxiety doesn’t always present itself to everyone around you. Anxiety doesn’t always show it’s signs or symptoms.

Anxiety builds from deep within every cell of your body. It can start as an itchy hot feeling on a certain part of your body. Your neck. Your chest. Your arms. Your whole body. Red splotches may form in those areas. You scratch to keep it under control. Only, you cause your skin to become redder, hotter, and itchier. You slap at the itching pain but it doesn’t stop it.

Your breathing increases and becomes shallow. You lose control. You begin to hyperventilate.

You may have sharp chest pains. Those pains may radiate down your arms or across your chest. They can even shoot straight through to your back. Panic begins to set in. Your face becomes red and you feel heat behind your eyes.

Sometimes you scream. Sometimes you fall to the floor trying to normalize your breaths. Sometimes you hold it in as long as you can and push it back down. Sometimes you just cry, hoping it will pass soon.

Anxiety is real and everyone reacts differently. You may not know that someone is even feeling anxiety. They may be able to hide that part of their life from you. Then when they get home to their quiet space they may break down. They may take meds or drink. They may just sleep.

Anxiety takes its toll. Sometimes it gets so bad you become depressed. Sometimes you just live with it; feeling the constant chest pressure, as you try to keep it under control.
Sometimes it consumes you.

Sometimes you have to sit and ignore everything around you; grounding yourself, as you try to focus on what is causing the problem. And that’s ok. It’s ok to stop talking to everyone around you so that you can catch your breathe and try to refocus. It’s ok to cry or scream for everyone to leave you alone for just one moment. It’s ok to take a break from the anxiety-causing elements to regain your composure.

If you don’t take time to find your peace and comfort zone, you could lose yourself and push everyone else away. You don’t want to do that. But sometimes people who don’t experience anxiety, don’t get it. And that is ok too.

They are human just like you. They just deal with things differently than you do.

Anxiety is real.
This is anxiety.

#leaveareview #review #reviewsmatter #bookreader #booklover #bookreview #indiauthor #selfpub

aliis-sinisalu-299299-unsplash.jpg

Photo by Aliis Sinisalu on Unsplash

When you browse Amazon or other websites that you wish to purchase something, I am certain that you check out the reviews. You don’t want to purchase something that has received no reviews or bad ones. At least, this is what I do. Sometimes I don’t worry about the bad reviews if the other reviews are good and have proof. Such as a detailed review or a picture.

Its’ very important that you leave a review for a book that you buy, whether it be an ebook or a paperback. The author’s book gets more recognition when it receives reviews.  You don’t even have to leave a whole lot of details when reviewing. You can say “nice story” or “great read” along with your stars that you leave. Of course if you think the book really sucked you should be specific. Give details so that the author can correct their mistakes and learn from them. It’s never nice to bash someone’s book if you absolutely hated it. For one, if you don’t read the particular genre then you shouldn’t read and leave a bad review.  That’s not fair to the author who targets certain audiences nor to the other readers who do like that particular genre.

Always be honest. A three star review with honest opinions of what you thought was wrong with it is much better than a three star review with “it sucked”.

If you loved the book then by all means leave a great review. Four to five stars with a small or detailed comment. The author appreciates it and so do the other readers who read the reviews before purchasing.

So my advice is please leave a review for authors on their books. It helps them grow and helps the readers make decisions to purchase or not.
